2nd IABU Conference Postponed to May 2012

Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and the IABU have decided to postpone the 2nd IABU conference, originally scheduled for 15-19 Dec. 2011, due to the unprecedented floods facing Thailand. Our host and sponsor, Mahachulalongkorn University, is situated in the worst hit area, Ayutthaya province. Please see the pictures here, taken on 18th Oct, how all the roads and all the ground floors of every building are submerged under water.

The conference is to be held instead in 31 May - 02 June 2012 in conjunction with the 9th United Nations Day of Vesak.

The decision to postpone the conference has been taken by the MCU Rector reluctantly. Currently not only that the university is nonfunctional but it is also not clear when the situation will be back to normal. The government agencies themselves are struggling. Some predict that it will take two months for the water to recede and the situations return to normal. There might also be a problem of water-borne epidemic that often follows such floods.

Yours respectfully in the Dharma,
Ven. Dr. Khammai Dhammasami
IABU Executive Secretary
